There is a myth that if you are not written into the specification, the project is lost. It is not true. Being specified changes the contest in your favour, but plenty of work is won by vendors who were never in the spec. On the approved vendor list, not specified, and still awarded. That is breaking the spec, and it is a relationship game more than a paperwork one.
Why an unspecified vendor can still win
Specification tilts the odds. It does not remove the choice. When it comes to the award, the call comes down to the EPC contractor running the project and who they would rather work with. If you are approved, credible and known to the people making that call, a written-in competitor can still be displaced. The specified product wins most of the time, not every time.
What it actually takes
- Be on the list. You cannot break a spec you are not eligible to bid against. Approval and vendor status are the entry ticket.
- Know the contractor, not just the operator. The EPC runs the procurement and makes the preference call. That relationship is the lever.
- Give the engineer a reason. A technical, commercial or delivery reason to prefer you over the written-in option, strong enough to justify the change.
- Be early. None of this happens the week the tender lands. It is built long before, while there is still time to shift a preference.
Where Parteloa comes in
You cannot break a spec on a project you never saw coming. Parteloa watches the companies, territories and projects that matter to you, pulls continuous signals from news, filings, registries, tenders and trade press, verifies them across sources, and scores the momentum, so a live opportunity surfaces while there is still room to move on it.
- Put an operator, a contractor or a project under continuous watch
- Catch the early signal that a programme is live, verified, not a single headline
- Move while the preference is still open, not after the tender closes it
You cannot break a spec you never saw.
Put the projects and contractors you sell to under live intelligence and get the early signal, while there is still time to work it.
